A native iOS app for learning harmonica
Overview
Harmonica Learner is my attempt at building the app I wanted while learning to play the harmonica. It uses real-time pitch detection through the microphone to hear what you are playing, then guides you through songs note by note — showing the hole number and whether to blow or draw for every target note.
Pitch tolerance starts lenient and tightens as you improve across attempts, and subtle haptic cues keep you in the flow without staring at the screen. A freestyle mode records your playing sessions and turns your own performances into practice targets you can replay and drill later.
You can also bring your own music: import an audio file, pick from your device library, record a song playing nearby, or paste a Spotify, YouTube, or Apple Music link — the app analyzes the audio locally and suggests a playable line of harmonica notes with hole and blow/draw guidance.

A precision tuning meter shows exactly how sharp or flat your pitch is, with animated feedback, color-coded indicators, and adaptive tolerance that tightens from 30¢ to 15¢ as you improve.
Play freely while the app captures audio and logs every detected note with timing data. Saved performances become visual note targets for silent practice.
Import audio files, record songs playing nearby, or paste streaming links. The app analyzes the dominant pitches locally and turns them into a playable harmonica line with a synthesized cover preview.
Seven bundled songs ranging from fundamentals to blues — C Major Scale, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Twinkle Twinkle, Oh Susannah, Starter Blues, C Chord Drill, and an I-IV-V Chord Walk.
